This photo shows a grey mare in a slightly hazy pasture with rolling hills behind her. This mare is demonstrating a quality of movement horse people refer to as "collection". Most of the time whena horse moves, the weight is concentrated on the shoulders and front legs, but when a horse is collected, most of the weight is taken onto the hindquarters, which lifts and shoulders and pushes the horse powerfully forward. Evidence of this can be seen in the mares forlegs off the ground, her rear lower than her withers, and the rounded neck and spine.
