This photo shows a mare cantering on the right lead through a pasture in front of panel fencing. This mares mane is braided in several week old braids. These type of straight braid can be left in for weeks at a time and help manes grow longer or, in the case of this mare, prevent tangling of longer manes while on full turnout. The braids should be left loose at the top to prevent pulling and breakage and tighten at the bottom.
